Begin is a super fast and frictionless way to bring transparency and accountability to your team's work – and it's designed from the ground up for teams that use Slack.
Each team works their own way, but here are just a few ideas for getting the most out of Begin!
Create tasks for everything, whittle down later
Creating tasks in Begin is fast and easy, so teams that use Begin often find that it's better to create plenty of tasks – and return to add detail, or delete some of those tasks, later.
Task as you go!
Create tasks during conversation
It can be onerous to context switch away from Slack, which is why it's a fairly common problem to miss out on documenting and creating tasks in the midst of a conversation.
Begin, however, keeps you in the conversation by making it incredibly easy to create new tasks in the moment, without leaving Slack.
As action items come up in chat, quickly transform them into tasks by mentioning Begin, such as:
@begin Follow up on the yeti quest permit tomorrow
If creating a task in the channel could be interruptive to your conversation, you can also silently create a task with a slash command, like so:
/begin Find the maps for our next expedition
Bring Begin to your meetings
IRL meetings should have your full attention! Which is why it's important that common meeting functions, like documenting action items (i.e. creating tasks), should be as fast and frictionless as possible.
One easy stay to engaged during meetings: quickly fire off new tasks in your Unshared project via Mac, web, or direct message with Begin, typos and all, without all the fuss of UI controls of other tasking tools.
Then, once your meeting is over, you can flesh out those tasks with a little more detail (or get rid of any extraneous tasks).
Create tasks now, assign them later
Not sure who's responsible for that thing that needs getting done? No sweat.
Don't leave it to chance. Instead, you can create tasks for yourself and dole them out later. (You can even get it out of your stream of tasks by selecting the
When you're ready to start sending tasks to their new owners, don't even sweat it. Your teammates don't even need to go and make a Begin account to take on new tasks.
Simply change the owner to any teammate, and they'll be alerted that you've asked for their help.
Create new Slack channels for new Begin projects
As your work communication evolves, Begin evolves with it!
Whenever you create a new Slack channel, linking it to a new Begin project is as simple as inviting Begin:
/invite @begin (More on inviting Begin to your channels here.)
Get quick project updates
Don't forget: you can request project updates at any time in any Slack channel with:
Even better, at the end of each week, Begin will check in and let each channel know what was accomplished over the last week. High fives, everybody! 🙏🏾🙏🏼🙏🏿🙏🏽🙏🏻
